Ashland's Editor-In-Chief of Odyssey Online Discusses Launch

Emily Kaiser, a junior English and Creative Writing major, is the editor-in-chief of Ashland's Branch of Odyssey Online. Dr. Donatini interviewed her about the program's local launch and below is a small snippet.
Odyssey is a website built on the exploration of new opinions. Oftentimes, the media reports the exact same story with very little variation. Odyssey opens up an outlet for college students to express their opinions on the happenings on the world. Our staff is comprised of students of diverse majors, interests, and backgrounds, united by the desire to share their opinions. Not every article is news-based--in fact, very few of our stories reflect breaking news. But the articles posted by our staff do give a little snapshot of what matters to the students of our campus and college campuses all over the nation. FULL STORY

"I am writing about Howard Kester," Slade explains. "He was radical Christian working for racial justice and labor rights in the South during the 1920s and 30s. What was not widely known during his lifetime was that he was an undercover investigator of lynchings for the NAACP."

The Things Dan Lehman Carried

By Matt Tullis, Associate Professor, Journalism and Digital Media

I had always, for the most part, understood writing, or so I thought. I had been writing since I was in the third grade. I had also been reading since before that, but in this class, the first semester of my final year as an undergraduate, I finally understood what it meant to really, truly read, to interact with the words on the page, and I was able to get there because of Dan. Identities: I Am

Ashland Center for Nonviolence intern Emily Wirtz writes a third blog post about artist/activist Traci Malloy and her project at Ashland University. Here is an excerpt from the post.

As we await the results of the final project, I think it’s important for us women to live through this strength. We should not have to carry mace or fake a phone call in order to feel safe walking down the side walk. Even Traci expressed her sincere concern for us as young women: “We need to pay attention to violence on women. We need to take back the night…and become inspired to do something more. This piece when it’s finished will have a life. I hope it has power."
