New York Times Best-Selling Author to Give Reading

Journalism and Digital Media and The Collegian will host a reading with New York Times best-selling author Ben Montgomery on Wednesday, Nov. 5 at 7:30 p.m. in the Ronk Lecture Hall in the Schar College of Education. Mastodon Excavation Update

Dr. Nigel Brush, Associate Professor of Geology, has been leading a mastodon excavation near Bellville, Ohio, which was featured in a Columbus Dispatch article and video.  Dr. Brush, a team of AU students and volunteers are spending their Saturdays at the site.  Archaeology Magazine, a publication of the Archaeological Institute of America, also ran a feature about Dr. Brush and the excavation. Sign Up Your Young Artist Today!

AU's Coburn Gallery and Art Club will offer its next "Art Saturday” for children 7 to 12 years old on November 15 from 10:00 a.m. to noon in Room 346 in the Center for the Arts. The class will explore the abstract sculptor Louise Nevelson and ask students to create a 3-D assemblage sculpture using recycled materials. Evelyn Palik: Lifelong Learning and a Passion for Life

What is the role of learning in the life of an individual?  For Evelyn Palik, reading and lifelong learning are a significant part of her identity. Evelyn and her husband, Emil, chose to retire to Ashland, because Ashland College could satisfy their passion for lifelong learning and growth.  When I asked Evelyn what advice she would give to college students, she stated that they should find their passion, to see what makes them alive and speaks to their heart and then they should learn about that field.  She also advises young people to be a keen observer of and listener to other people.

Ashland Biology Graduates Pursuing Degrees in Occupational Therapy

We are seeing growing interest among Ashland science students in the field of occupational therapy. Practitioners in this field "treat injured, ill, or disabled patients through the therapeutic use of everyday activities", according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, which forecasts above average job growth in the field. Senior Exhibition Announced

The Coburn Art Gallery will present its annual fall Senior Art Exhibition featuring paintings by Karly Beuck (Lodi) in a series titled “Strength: Inferiority Not Consented.” The series presents Greek women out of their mythical contexts and challenges their stories by changing the character’s typical demeanor found in myth into one to be revered and respected in today’s society.  An opening reception will be held Nov. 6 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. and will kick-off the exhibition which will run through Dec. 14.

AU Theatre Premiering a New Play from New York Playwright

Ashland University Theatre is proud to be selected by New York's Farm Theater as one of three universities to participate in a College Collaboration project. Last spring the Farm Theater commissioned emerging playwright Lindsay Joy to write a new play in communication with students. The universities will produce the original script throughout this academic year with Ashland presenting the premiere performance of In the Event of My Death directed by Scott Hudson.
