Tyler Lance hired by WKQW radio


2018 Digital Media Journalism graduate Tyler Lance was hired by Clarion County Broadcasting Corporation to work at its Oil City, PA radio station WKQW.  He will be serving as an on-air announcer, news producer and high school sports play-by-play broadcaster. According to Tyler, his new boss was very impressed with the radio experience that he received with the department of Journalism and Digital Media and WRDL.

Art Exhibition Opens Aug. 30

The Coburn Gallery will host a group exhibition titled “Figura(tive),” which features a selection of paintings curated by the gallery director, Cynthia Petry. The exhibiting artists include Benjy Davies, Beth Nash, Joe Radoccia and Judy Takacs. The exhibition will open with a reception on Thursday, August 30, from 4:30-6:30 p.m. During the reception, several of the exhibiting artists will be giving a gallery talk at 5pm.The gallery talk and the reception are both free and open to the public. AU Students Selected for Ohio EPA Scholarships

Four Ashland University environmental science students have been awarded scholarships for the 2018-2019 academic year through Ohio EPA’s Environmental Education Fund including Emily Nicholls, Hayley Nininger, Tyler Theaker and Jordin Vidmar.

“Together with Ohio colleges and universities, we are investing in today’s environmental scholars to foster stewardship well into the future,” said Ohio EPA Director Craig W. Butler. READ MORE

AU Theatre Auditions on Tuesday

All university students and local men (faculty, staff and community members) are invited to Ashland University Theatre auditions on Tuesday, Aug. 28, for the first two productions: Little Women, the musical, and Anton Chekhov's Three Sisters. New Publications from Joe Mackall

Joe Mackall, Professor of English, has an essay, “Yesterday’s Noise,” in the current issue of Punctuate Magazine.

Also, Mackall’s essay “Gazing at My Father Gazing” will be out this month in the ten-year anniversary print issue of Solstice: A Magazine of Diverse Voices. Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Stephen Dunn serves as the special guest editor for the issue.

Poverty Simulation Volunteer Opportunity

I have been asked to reach out to community members to gather volunteers to assist Hillsdale Middle School with a Poverty Simulation they are putting on for teachers on Monday, August 20th. Q & A with Sarah Wells, Alumna and Author


I wrote on a regular basis for an online column called "Off the Page," a publication of Discovery House, for a couple of years. The column offered a platform for engaging with the intersection of faith and everyday life. One day, the editors of the column reached out to me to talk about the possibility of writing a family devotional for them. It wasn't a project I had ever really thought about doing, but the more we talked, the more excited I got about the vision they had for the book and how it could work.
