Ashland University’s Coburn Gallery is hosting an exhibition titled “Picturing the Past: Highlights from the Ashland University Permanent Collection” that features a selection of artwork from the Myers Collection curated by AU Associate Professor Dr. Wendy Schaller. An opening reception which is free and open to the public will be held Thursday, Jan. 24, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. and the exhibition runs through Feb. 23.
The 17 historical paintings featured in the exhibition span a period of 500 years of art historical development representing the styles of a number of important schools and geographic locations both European and American. Read more at news.ashland.edu

Abstract Workshop Jan. 15 | Abstract Deadline Jan. 25
This is a reminder of the Friday, Jan. 25 (5 p.m.) deadline for submission of abstracts for the Tenth Annual College of Arts and Sciences Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity (URCA) Symposium. This event will highlight the research, scholarly, and creative activities of students throughout the College of Arts and Sciences, and will be held on Tuesday, Apr. 9. Please consider submitting your work for this event.

Chorus Rehearsals Begin Jan. 7
The Ashland Area Chorus (AAC), under the direction of Libby Slade, will begin rehearsals for the spring semester on Monday, Jan. 7. The rehearsals are held on Monday evenings from 7-8:45 p.m. in Room 242 of the Center for the Arts. This semester the Chorus will perform choruses from Verdi's Il Travatore, La Traviata, Nabucco and Aida with the Ashland Symphony Orchestra at their April 13 concert at Archer Auditorium.
Membership in AAC is open to all adults and AU students. Students still in high school may also participate with the permission of the ensemble's director. A nominal membership fee of $25 for adults and $15 for high school students is requested and payable by the fourth week of rehearsals to continue participation in the ensemble for the semester. AU students may register for the ensemble as a class. More info at ashlanduniversitymusic.blogspot.com.

19/20 Theme: "Liberty and Responsibility"
The CAS Symposium Committee is proud to announce the theme for the 2019-2020 Symposium Against Indifference which is “Liberty and Responsibility.” Some of the events tentatively planned include an Arthur Miller play during the 13th International Arthur Miller Conference which is being held at AU, discussions of amendments including the 100th anniversary of the 19th amendment with a performance of Carrie Chapman Catt, head of the National American Woman Suffrage Association.
