AU Theatre Opens Season Navigating Between Real & Virtual Worlds

The Department of Theatre opens the 17/18 season with Deborah Zoe Laufer's 21st century American drama, Leveling Up. Directed by Dr. Teresa Durbin-Ames, performances run for one week with 7:30 p.m. performances on Wednesday, Oct. 11, through Saturday, Oct. 14, and a 2 p.m. matinee on Sunday, Oct. 15, in the Studio Theatre. ‘Working for Women’s Rights in Mexico’ Public Lecture, 9/26


The Religion Department, the International Peacemakers Program of the Presbyterian Church and the Ashland Center for Nonviolence are co-sponsoring a public lecture by Lydia Cordero Cabrera on the topic of “Working for Women’s Rights in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico.” The lecture, which is free and open to the public, will be held Tuesday, Sept. 26, at 7 p.m. in the Ridenour Room of the Dauch College of Business and Economics. Pre-Law Society Meeting Sept. 26

The Ashland University Pre-Law society will meet on Sept. 26 at 6:30 p.m. in Dauch 116 and will continue meeting every other Tuesday. The group plans to bring in lawyers/law professors, do a law school visit to Akron, and host several Logic Game Seminars with Dr. Louis Mancha to help with LSAT preparation. Cowan Receives UPE Award

Congratulations to Michael Cowan for receiving the 2017 UPE Scholarship Award.

Mondal Publishes Scholarly Article

Dr. Sharleen Mondal’s article, “Hindu Widows as Religious Subjects: The Politics of Christian Conversion and Revival in Colonial India,” has been published in the peer-reviewed Journal of Women’s History, a publication that accepts only 8% of the manuscripts submitted and is considered to be one of the top journals in its field. Thy Neighbor Art-making Session

 Art Club, the International Club and the Ashland Center for Nonviolence are hosting an art-making session which is open to all AU students, faculty and staff on Tuesday, September 26 at 7 p.m. in Room 346 of the Center for the Arts. Art supplies and refreshments are provided. All completed works will be exhibited as part of the upcoming Thy Neighbor Mail Art Show at The Coburn Gallery in October.

AU Psychology Majors Are Going Places!

Recent psychology graduates Melanie Ward and Muslimah Williams are beginning their graduate studies in Europe this fall. Melanie is attending Utrecht University in the Netherlands, and Muslimah is enrolled at Swansea University in Wales. Both students will be working toward Master's degrees in Clinical Psychology.

Madrigal Sales Begin 9/25

Tickets for the 42nd Annual Madrigal Feaste go on sale to the public on Monday, September 25 at 12 p.m. Ashland University Department of Music produces the annual Madrigal Feaste which is slated for Wednesday through Sunday, November 29 - December 3, 2017. All performances begin at 6:30 p.m. in Redwood Hall. Patrons are reminded that this is a very popular event and the box office will be incredibly busy. 17-18 AU Theatre Season Building Bridges from Greeks to Seuss

Ashland University Theatre announces its 2017-2018 season themed "Building Bridges." Each of the three mainstage shows in the season will provide opportunities to better understand ourselves and others with performances that encourage dialogue about challenges in our world today. From the modern play Leveling Up which follows twenty-year-old roommates as they navigate the blurry line between the virtual and real worlds; to Euripides' The Trojan Women, a timeless story about the victims of war; and Seussical, the fantastical, magical musical extravaganza based on our favorite Dr. Seuss characters -- audiences will be reminded to think of, respect and care for others and those who may not be like ourselves. JDM's Maggie Cogar and her JDM 307: Advanced Reporting and Editing class were the first to use the newly designed Center for Innovation and Teaching Excellence Classroom. Maggie felt that the collaborative work space and flexible technology was a great fit for her advanced journalism course.

Communication Studies Visiting Instructor Named Fellow


Amanda Weed was named a Kopenhaver Center Fellow of the Lillian Lodge Kopenhaver Center for the Advancement of Women in Communication at the 100th Convention of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC) in Chicago. Weed is among 47 women from colleges and universities across the U.S. selected to be a Kopenhaver Center Fellow and participate in the seminar on professional leadership and team building, “Women Faculty Moving Forward: A Pathway to Success in the Academy.” READ MORE

Alumna is Postdoctoral Fellow in Regulatory Science

Daphne is working on a research project focused on using real world data collected with electronic health records to inform research studies that can improve efficacy and reduce the cost of clinical development for drugs benefitting patients with rare diseases.
