AU Problem Solving Group Recognized by Nat'l Publications

  • In the January 2018 issue of School Science and Mathematics, the AU PSG received credit for submitting a correct solution to Problem 5458. Emily Law was the primary author of the solution.
  • In the February 2018 issue of Math Horizons, AU PSG was recognized for submitting a correct solution to Problem 358. Kyle Puhl was the primary author of the solution.

    Spring Reading Series Begins Today, Feb. 26


    The AU English Department will host three writers as part of the annual Spring Reading Series. Prose author Erika Krouse will kick-off the series Monday, Feb. 26 at 4 p.m. in Schar 138. As explained by Dr. Joe Mackall, "The New York Times Book Review called Erika’s debut collection of stories, Come Up and See Me Sometime, “potent” and “original.” The Times also wrote “Krouse leaves us with a feeling of unbounded, exhilarating possibility.” READ MORE

    Saylor Speaks to Sport Psychology Class

    Drew Saylor, manager of the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes (Los Angeles Dodgers), recently spoke to Dr. Curt Ickes’ Sport Psychology class. He discussed the role the mental game plays in the peak performance of professional baseball players and how this type of training takes place throughout the minor leagues. Drew grew up in Wadsworth and played at Kent State University before being drafted by the Marlins. He later played for the Lake Erie Crushers where Dr. Ickes was the Player Development Specialist. Following his tenure at the Crushers, Coach Saylor went on to manage in the Colorado Rockies system before being hired by the Dodgers in 2015.

    Film Director Screens New Documentary, 2/19

    Screenwriter and film director Robby Henson (who has directed films starring Academy Award winners Billy Bob Thornton and Patricia Arquette) will present a public screening of his new documentary "I Come From" on Monday, Feb. 19 at 7:30 p.m. in the Hawkins-Conard Student Center Auditorium. Following the film screening, Henson will speak about the film and lead a Q&A. READ MORE

    New Faculty and New Genre for Ashland MFA

    With the addition of new faculty, the Ashland MFA has become a program that is truly celebrating and promoting diversity. This builds upon the sturdy foundation already in place: a curriculum based on writing and editing a book-length project, our unique single-residency model, and the sense of community engendered by the way we run our non-residential, online semesters.     Community Band Begins Rehearsals Feb. 13


    The Ashland Area Community Concert Band (AACCB) announces their spring schedule for its 25th season including rehearsals, concerts and membership requirements.     Public Lecture on Churches and Civil Rights Movement in Cleveland

    On Tuesday. Feb. 13 at 10:50 a.m. in Room 138 of the Schar College of Education, Dr. Carolyn Dupont of Eastern Kentucky University will give a free, public lecture, titled "A Disgrace to the White Race: Bruce Klunder, White Clergy and the Civil Rights Movement in Cleveland, Ohio," which is offered in conjunction with Dr. Peter Slade’s REL340: Religion and the Civil Rights Movement.

    MFA Faculty and Staff Presenting at AWP

    The 2018 AWP Conference & Bookfair will be in Tampa, Florida, March 7-10. The conference features over 2,000 presenters and 550 readings, panels, and craft lectures. The bookfair has more than 800 presses, journals, and literary organizations from around the world. Ashland University's MFA program will be at booth #1416 and many MFA instructors will be presenting at this year's panels. READ MORE
